While the various Lustrum committees (we'll introduce them a bit further in this post) are making the final preparations for the parts of the Lustrum they're responsible for, lets take a look at the first activities coming up and introduce all the people that make the lustrum possible.
Our first activity, opening the 10th lustrum of E.T.S.V. Scintillla, will be the Dies Reception. So what is 'Dies' all about? Dies is short for Dies Natalis which is latin for "birthday, anniversary"1. At the Dies Reception we will be celebrating the 50th Dies Natalis of our study association E.T.S.V. Scintilla. This 50th anniversary also marks the 10th lustrum. A Dutch student might now make the joke "lust [u] rum" which translates to "do you like rum", cleverly dropping the 'u' to make it sound like lustrum. To find the origins of Scintilla you will have to go back in time about 50 years. To explain what a lustrum is and where the word comes from we will have to go back a bit further in time. Luckily, a student's best source of information is here to help us: off to Wikipedia!
A lustrum (plural lustra) was a term for a five-year period in Ancient Rome.2 With a bit of grade school arithmetic we can now deduce that after 50 years this indeed marks our 10th lustrum.
Of course you didn't come here to learn, that's what classes are for. You came here to celebrate and to have fun! So let us shortly explain what we have on offer for you.
The Dies Reception will begin this wednesday (9th september 2015) in the Abscint. Starting at 16:00 the bar will open for free drinks (free as in beer). Food (pay what you order) will be organised through Thuisbezorgd.nl somewhere after 6 o'clock. If at this point you haven't signed up for all of our awesome activities we will be providing analog sign up lists (although if you're reading this you might as well sign up digitally right now).
So what activities can we sign-up for?
As explained above we'll be starting off with the Dies Reception. The next activity will be the Bowtie Tie Workshop Lunch. Learn how to tie a bowtie and receive your very own 10th lustrum bowtie which you can wear at the closing Gala Dinner. Once your bowtie is tied you can start packing for the next activity which is in the coming weekend (11th of september through to 13th of september). Will you be Camping with Scintilla? Join us for a weekend of camping in a camping farm much like your intro camp but this time with comfy beds!
Of course those are just the first two activities and there are many more. Check out the activities overview to view them all. Make sure you're logged in with your UT-Account or Scintilla's Credentials for Active Members so you can sign up for the activities!
So who is organising this?
Earlier we already hinted at the fact that there is not just a single committee behind the lustrum but that it's a true team effort of many Scintilla members.
Lustrum Committee
Keeping track of all the various activities and committee efforts is the Lustrum committee. They have the task of orchestrating all the different dates and making sure that someone steps in if something goes wrong.
The lustrum committee consists of:

- Roel Mentink VP
- Gerolf Meulman
- Vera Nauta
- Daan Pendavingh
- Alexander Varwijk
- Mattanja Venema VP
- Rowan de Vries VP

Lustrum Book Committee
One of the events during the lustrum will be the unveiling of the Lustrum Book. The lustrum book committee has been hard at work to create a book with the history of Scintilla and many stories and anecdotes about Scintilla.

The lustrum camp committee has been hard at work organising the first major activity of the lustrum: Camping with Scintilla! They have found a great location and have planned many great activities among which a lustrum cantus. They too are still hard at work with the finishing touches at the time of writing this article but we're sure it will turn out great!

SCALA
Although the SCALA is not a lustrum committee, they are responsible for organising activities throughout the academic year. So who better to ask for setting up an activity than SCALA? They have come back with two great activities for the lustrum: Zorben and Bouncen. Curious as to what those strange words mean? Check out the activity pages and sign-up!

Symposium Committee
Again not technically a lustrum committee, but a hilight of the year nevertheless and this year planned to add some educational activities in the lustrum, the symposium committee has been hard at work to organise a day of awesome talks and events. Make sure you don't miss the symposium!

Scintilla's Members
Of course an activity is no fun without any participants! We're sure there are people that have helped out along the way or will lend a helping hand during the lustrum so don't forget them!
De Borrel
And lets not forget that all those participants will go thirsty. We thank de Borrel for their efforts in keeping the members of Scintilla hydrated during the activities!
I've read all this, now what?
If you've made it this far down the page then well done! Pat yourself on the back and go get a beer at the Dies Reception! Go double check your registrations to make sure you're not missing any lustrum activities. Last of all, make sure you check back regularly during the lustrum for pictures of activities and more news!
